How did cats get the stereotype of being cold/aloof?

All of my cats are codependent and can’t stand the idea of not being in the same room as me. At night they hurl themselves into my bedroom door. The older ones are used to sleeping with me but the kitten thinks it’s time to play, so they’re banned from an open door.
