Ever wondered what happened to all the animals in times of war … i wanted to know this after watching a WW2 documentary recently and here’s what I found … it’s truly devastating 😔
So if you have any fur babies at home give them a big hug and remember their ancestors went through hell for us alongside a lot of good hearted brave men and women during times of war .. it’s tragic yet poignant and should be remembered 🥀
Fear of food shortages and disruption from air raids led to a government pamphlet advising pet owners to euthanize their animals if they couldn't be relocated or cared for. This resulted in a mass slaughter of hundreds of thousands of pets in the first week of the war.
Dogs: Served in various roles, including guards, messengers, and scouts, according to the Warfare History Network. Some were trained to sniff out mines or find wounded soldiers. Many were either killed during or deemed surplus after the war.
Some animals were evacuated to safer locations, while others were euthanized if zoos were unable to care for them.
