My vet told me that they’re most susceptible to kidney problems as they age, which is why it matters that they have a varied diet.
She also told me that they’re incredibly stoic with pain, and often when the symptoms appear it’s getting quite urgent because they can carry on like nothing is wrong very well.

@Oneofthestormboys Agree. My first cat died of kidney failure. She pulled through one bought of it, but only a matter of time before it resurfaces and can't be controlled.
I had another cat who was about 16 and was rarely sick his entire life. One day, he stopped eating and was hiding behind the couch. That was very unlike him, and the next day took him to an emergency vet as he wasn't coming around. He died within and hour while they were running tests. They believe he had cancer for a while, never showed any signs of discomfort.
