Daughter had to put her very elderly dog down today. The grandsons are taking it hard. I grew up on a farm and was introduced to death very young. Dogs cats chickens cows pigs turkeys ducks etc. I don't want to say I have a hard heart but death is a part of life and when an animal dies it dies.

@hippyjoe1955 I’ve had animals my whole life too - not farm animals though. I love them. I love all animals. But I do understand that they just don’t live as long as people do. Had pets as a kid. They’ve passed on and we did ok. I can see grieving them and still remembering them - we still remember and talk about our old pets, but the person who isn’t coping well is completely despondent. And it was her grandfathers animal. Not even her own. Idk how to interact with her bc I’ve never seen such a strong response before.

@DoubleRings Yeah I know what you mean. I recently lost a dog. Her passing paled in comparison to the loss of a son I had a number of years before. It is important to keep things in perspective.
