Any pro tips for this clueless dog owner?? 🤣

How do I keep this house clean with a dog that has to go outside to potty in the rain?!

I’ve been putting a towel down when she comes in and immediately drying her with it..but she’s still filthy and stinky. Google says bathing too often is a bad thing and to only bathe her once every 3 months. They’re insane. After 4 days she’s smelly with or without the rain, so I’ve been bathing her once a week. I’m tired lol.

I confess, I am a cat person. I just got this dog for the husband….but naturally I’m the only one doing everything…and I confess, I’m a terrible dog trainer! I’m about to lose my mind with all the chewed up stuff (she really loves to destroy any toilet paper rolls she can get ahold of and shred them all over the entire house 😱) and I cannot seem to get her potty trained for the life of me! She’s going on 6 months old now. She’s such a sweet little nightmare of a menace 😂

I cannot stop laughing! To answer (the best I can. I have always had a dog and currently a German Shepard) The rain issue is an ongoing dog/owner battle. I wipe my guys paws the best I can then sit with him a bit in our garage where he dries a bit more. I am fortunate; he doesn't like being wet and is extremely intelligent (I am not just saying that I swear!) so when I tell him to "wait" or "paws please" he knows what it means and will do as told. The silver lining to this scenario is he will give me his paw, gently..very gently as I have MS and am off balance more than balanced lol. My point is they learn. Repetition and reward worked well for me all these years. You will get her potty trained, I promise. As with kids, some take longer and trust me when I say the training is a mere blip in the lifetime you will share with her. And they are all destructive at first! She will grow out of it, I swear. The love and loyalty she will show you throughout her life....priceless. :)
@Mikla I keep trying to tell myself this phase surely won’t last forever 😬 Thank you for the reassurance! I will try to be patient. It’s so hard. I already have a toddler and a husband who is messier than the kid and the dog combined 😂 We’ve had her about 4 months now. Hopefully we’ll be out of this phase soon! Lol

@cherryxblossom If it's any help you made my day! It has been one of those "down" days for me and reading (and visualizing!) your post...well, I am still smiling. You will never regret her!
