New turtle please help

I just bought a turtle from a friend and its a little baby. Ive turned the lights off and its night but i can still see it just in the water. Can it sleep in water or is it meant to go to its dry place? If its meant to go somewhere dry how do i know it actually knows how to go there or should i pick him up and put him there?

Turtles, like every other living thing, know how to breathe. If your turtle had some kind of defect it would have been noticed by now

There is actually a website with your name.

I would assume would depend on the type of turtle, as some of the extremes can be very different...

But from Google
Turtles don't experience deep sleep as humans do. A turtle's sleep is more of a long rest within which they must come up for air several times a night. Aquatic turtles can be underwater for 4 to 7 hours, only bobbing their head above water to breathe.
Turtles have been around for a very long time and they are still going strong. Your turtle knows what is best for your turtle.

Also, what are some things i should make sure to do during the first few days?

@Turtleowner Since it's a baby you'll need to give it proper supplement for the growth of the shell and I'd hope you have proper lighting and know how to clean the water. This is going to be more than the first few days though, just feed it and let it get used to the new place without bothering it
