If we live in a materialistic universe where magic isn't real, then what happens during vodou cermonies where they kill a chicken and invoke spirits to take over?

@Gloomy Are you sure it is? A Chrisitan ritual about human sacrifice involves eating the flesh and blood of christ metaphorically at communion. An indigenous african religious ritual can involve killing an albino child to harvest their bones because they think it will give them magial powers 🥶
