If there are so many planets out there in space why haven't we colonized other planets and created human civilization across the solar system?

Well, first we need to be able to reach one, not merely be aware that it exists. Then we can talk about colonization.

Because:

1. We don't know if any habitable planets exist.
2. Even if there was an Earthlike planet "next door" to us orbiting Proxima Centauri, it would still take us four years to get there..at lightspeed.
