Milki wey and unaverse

Why do we cal it milkei wey? Liek thres no mielk up in there on space??
DrWatson · 70-79, M
The word "galaxy" is related to "lactate". The ancients looked up and saw something that looked "milky".

Because when you look up in a very dark sky (away from artificial light of towns and cities), you can see a milky smear across the sky. You’re looking towards the centre of the galaxy, where billions and billions of stars just look like a milky light because of the distance and dust.

Oneofthestormboys · 100+, M
@AmberStylz I think it was the ancient Greeks that named it, although they didn’t realise that they were looking at our galaxy at the time. It just looks like a very faint stain across the sky.

The connection is the nut or sperm where everyone comes from is like a Milky Way from Orion’s Belt.
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
Because it has a milky appearance if you use your imagination
Its more obvious away from city lights
And theres no mielk
