I Dont Think We Are Alone In the Universe

If the Universe if infinite and we know there are Solar systems and planets beyond our technology of seeing, Why would we assume that we are the only one with life? Look at all the life forms that exist on Earth. Are we that small minded to think we are the only ones with life or intelligent life?
