I Like to Lie Outside and Watch the Stars

My wife and I used to do this together. About a mile from my dad's house is an old restaurant. It closed down about ten years ago, and the parking lot has mostly been reclaimed by nature. There are no street lights around for as far as you can see. There is something special about looking into the sky at night. It's like a window that allows us to see into the past, a world undisturbed by man. It's vast, quiet, and mysterious. I occasionally take my camera with me. It's a perfect location for long-exposure photography at night, capturing the star trails as the Earth rotates. Watching the stars, in my experience, is simply too great to be described by a few adjectives. Don McLean once stated, in reference to American Pie, "It's beyond analysis. It's poetry." This is how I feel about watching the stars.
