One of my fondest memories from when I was in the US Navy was getting off watch at about midnight, going out to the "weatherdecks", let my eyes adjust to the dark, and (especially if we were near the equator), lay back and look at the myriads of stars and galaxies.
From Polaris and Ursa Major, to the Southern Cross. And everything in between.
Then hearing the occasional splash-splash as the dolphins swam alongside the prow. And then the occasional sshshshshshshssshshhh.... As a school of flying sigh surface and skim along.
Now if only I would have been able to be naked.

I often float on my back in my lake and marvel at the stars...all night long.

Yes. The cold witch light of scattered diamonds that takes hundreds or thousands of years to arrive.
