NASA's DART program successfully altered the course of an asteroid...
the object that crashed into the asteroid was about the size of a golf cart and it crashed into an asteroid about the size of the great pyramid. Not humongous but big enough that it would have made an significant impact (see what I did there?) on the earth has it been on a collision course.
Here's where I shouldn't let my mind wander:
In a galaxy far far away
"commander we have just noticed a shift in asteroid k47b. it is now on a direct collision course with us."
"have you determined the cause of the course change?"
"yes evidently the inhabits of that pesky 3rd rock from the sun did it"
"well if it's war they wish, we shall be happy to accommodate them. inform the star council that we have activated the wormhole portal and will be deploying the first wave of fighters"
