The moon and Beethoven

Edit: You probably need to view this on a screen larger than a phone screen to get the full effect.

For me, this video brings together the "nerdy scientific" view of the Moon with the "romantic, artistic" experience of the Moon.

The individual frames of this animation are based on photos from the Clementine orbiter of the 1990's. It is a time lapse of the phases of the Moon from New Moon to the next New Moon.

Focus on the terminator -- the dividing line between light and dark. As it advances, the sun is rising on the moon. And you can see the west rims of craters lit up by the early sun, while the low crater interiors are still in darkness. But as the terminator advances, you can see those craters fill with light. In other words, you are watching sunrise after sunrise all over the moon.

And after full moon, you are watching sunset after sunset everywhere.

All to the music of the Moonlight Sonata!

Magnificent - I’ve never seen a baby seal on the moon.

@Mamapolo2016 I assume you are referring to the lava plain at the upper right? That's Mare Crisium (the Sea of Crises). I have seen some authors compare it to a sleepy bear. But a seal works too!

breathtaking..
thank you for this
