So there is talk that after billions of years, the sun will die and it will grow so large it will grow into the Earth.

So let's say humans live that long, and they build subterranean tunnels. Would that event of the Sun destroy Earth? If it doesn't destroy Earth, could humans survive such an event by living in subterranean tunnels?

No. The planet, itself, will be consumed by the Sun. There will be nothing left to inhabit.

@PhoenixPhail nmh. That's what im thinking. But if it does "die" down, does that mean less heat, ergo ... making it " liveable " for us humans ? I don't even know if thats possible.
@Umile The Earth will be reduced to a burned out cinder. There will be no means to support any life. Not even cockroaches.
