Americans know Russia won the space race right? Asking because of something someone here said.

Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space. Therefore winning the space race. What’s the confusion?

I thought the space race was about landing on the moon. I suppose if we change the context you’re right.
@MorbidCynic That would be a moon race. I think the US couldn’t hack being beat to the post so they changed it.
@guerrilla I mean, I grew up in Poland. So the views of the Russian people weren’t positive. I was going by the context of what I was told the space race was about.

@MorbidCynic who ever controls the media, controls the narrative. USSR was a closed system and their media was had more domestic propaganda where Western block media had a global reach.

Given that. Russians went to space first and USA felt snub and had to go one step ahead. They went to moon. Both were remarkably milestones.
@Reflection2 ok. I didn’t even grow up in the USA. So I can’t relate.

@MorbidCynic I never even visited USA ever.lol
@MorbidCynic It is - and he's is dead wrong. Anybody can plop an object on the moon. But it takes a high level of technological achievements that the USA had by allowing men to land and explore the moon - WHILE we were fighting a war in Vietnam.
