I thought the space race was about landing on the moon. I suppose if we change the context you’re right.
@MorbidCynic That would be a moon race. I think the US couldn’t hack being beat to the post so they changed it.

@guerrilla I mean, I grew up in Poland. So the views of the Russian people weren’t positive. I was going by the context of what I was told the space race was about.

@MorbidCynic who ever controls the media, controls the narrative. USSR was a closed system and their media was had more domestic propaganda where Western block media had a global reach.
Given that. Russians went to space first and USA felt snub and had to go one step ahead. They went to moon. Both were remarkably milestones.

@MorbidCynic It is - and he's is dead wrong. Anybody can plop an object on the moon. But it takes a high level of technological achievements that the USA had by allowing men to land and explore the moon - WHILE we were fighting a war in Vietnam.
