The New Social Media Restrictions
Poll - Total Votes: 2You're right, this idea is stupid.
No, yet more nanny-state government control of our lives is exactly what's needed.
Meh. It's Australia. No one cares about Australia. What happens there is of no importance.

I'm not sure how well known this is in the rest of the world, but in Australia our wonderful government (that's extreme sarcasm by the way, just in case anyone doesn't get it) has decided in its infinite wisdom to introduce age restrictions limiting access to social media sites. No one under the age of 16 will be allowed to open a social media account. Now of course there are obvious issues with such an idea, such as:
1. The fact that any 12 year old who knows anything at all about computers, the internet and so on will easily be able to find a way to get around these restrictions.
2. In the grand scheme of things, Australia isn't exactly an important nation, and the social media corporations like 'Facebook' will in all probability just give our government the middle finger and tell it to get lost.
3. This is just yet another instance of pearl-clutching, just another moral panic. "Think of the children!" they like to say, but does anyone truly believe that any government gives a rat's rear end about children and their welfare?
This just isn't going to work, and the people who came up with it must be retarded if they think it will actually make any real positive difference to anything.
