@Pretzel no that is a really scary thought. Driverless cars? Computers aren't that reliable.

@Baremine been listening to a couple of tech podcasts - it's coming. and given the idiots I see on the road - maybe it's not a horrible thing

@Pretzel spent 50 years with a CDL class A. Believe me I have seen my share of idiots. Driverless cars are coming and it isn't a good thing.

@Baremine actually computers are already much safer drivers then humans... humans are terrible drivers.

@DancingFox but you can't depend on a computer. They lock up crash etc. Driverless cars have already killed people. Give me my 1970 Torino cobra coupe with it's 429 cid gas powered no computer. That was dependable.
The biggest problem with modern cars is all the high tech, electronic crap on them. Usually the PCM ( computer).

@Baremine are computers 100% dependable ? nope... noone ever claimed that.

are computers a lot more dependable then humans ? absolutely.. its not even close. computers are much safer drivers

@DancingFox driving an 18 wheeler turning from one highway to another up hill during rush hour. Shifted gears and stepped on the throttle nothing happened.
Computer did sense the throttle. True life. Happened to me.
Computers only allow people to drive that shouldn't be behind the wheel.
I was a commercial driver for 50 years, been licensed driver for 59 years. 50% of the drivers on the road shouldn't be allowed to drive. 20% more should be restricted.

@Baremine there are some good human drivers.. but the average human is a terrible driver... so yeah some humans can compete and are even better then computers. but what matters is the statistics, and computers are just superior there.
so it will be better and safer with selfdriving cars

The days of Terminator are getting closer.... Global warming will not kill off the human race but future AI sure will... @Baremine
