Schoolgirls caned over trousers in the UK

In 1976, the law changed allowing senior schoolgirls to wear trousers to school, like the boys.

But several schools also inserted a caveat... if they were going to have equality with the boys, then they could be punished like the boys, too.

Previously, whilst boys had always been caned, girls tended to get the slipper across their skirts.

Now, however, they could be caned like the boys, and several schools adopted this policy (though the slipper was still retained as an option).

Seems only fair!
