In my family/church we weren't considered adults until 21. My stepmother spanked me from 10-yrs-old on and pretty much everyone of my peers (and definitely my cousins) were also spanked. It was the "norm" for our congregation.
I certainly could have moved out on my own at 18/19 but I was pretty innocent and immature - being raised the way I was - and my stepmother was paying for my expensive college. The idea of living on my own supporting myself etc was preposterous, while "paying for my misdeeds" with bare bottom spankings was just the way things were.
Spankings at that age were embarrassing, and I remember sitting in college classes and wondering if I was the only student who still got spanked at home...but most of my girl peers married young and I was one of the few to go to college!

I had been given an "emergency" credit card, but ended up using it at a pizza place to impress my new older friends.
