In my opinion, a spanking should be accompanied by some rituals for (1) delimitting the punishment time from the daily life time (2) making it more memorable for the recipient. In both situations, as a preparatory period before getting it or an additional humiliation forcing the culprit to meditate to his/her fault and to the consequences he/she just suffered, the corner time should work.

Corner time can be very effective before and after spanking. It really depends upon the situation...if the spankee is completely out of control or the spanker is so furious...putting some time in between allows either to better reflect.
