I got divorced when I was 24. My wife kicked me out of the house.
Getting divorced made realize that I wanted to go back to college and finish my degree. I couldn't afford to get my own
apartment, so I went to live with my parents. The deal was I could live with them rent/ board free. However, my father told me that while i was living under his roof I would have to follow his rules. If I didn't there would be consequences. In the beginning this arrangement worked out well. I ended up going to the bar and clubs. I'd come home at 5-6 am, as I was with my girlfriend. My parents are religious fanatics. They didn't agree with the fact that I was dating an 18-year-old, Nor did they accept the fact that I disrupted the house coming home drunk. One night when I came home, drunk, my father was waiting up for me. After a lot of arguing he took his belt off and told me to drop my pants. I protested, reminding him that I was an adult. He gave me an ultimatum. I either accept my punishment or go to a shelter. The shelter didn't appeal to me, So I pulled my pants and shorts down. My father let me have it hard with his belt. The same belt he used on me when I was in high school. My behind was throbbing. I continued to drink and stay out all night. My father continued to use his belt on me. When I was 26, I graduated from college. At that point I was able to afford my own place. I know other people who were strapped by their father's when they were in college. It all boiled down to, following your parent's rules or accept the consequences. Being strapped as an adult was total humiliation. Especially with my girlfriend and her friends knowing all about it.
