I Got Spanked At Church

My church had a small room in the back. Not much more than a closet really. It contained a single chair. Misbehaved children were taken there for a spanking. I got dragged there once for making faces at a friend sitting in the pew behind us. Mom saw me and that was that.

Some churches have "cry rooms" with carpeted walls so parents can remove crying infants until they settle down, not disturbing the service in the meantime.

But some such cry rooms get put to dual use, as soundproofed, convenient places to bring older children for spankings.

Unfortunately, if a parent has a crying baby in one of those rooms, and another parent brings in a school-aged child and spanks them, the baby will probably end up howling even louder than before due to all the commotion.

@tombailey usually the parent, but if the parents had a large family, another church member would take them to the back and take care of it.

@Selfexpression I don’t think they expected smaller kids to really listen to the sermon. But you had to sit quietly and behave in an appropriately reverent manner or your backside paid the price.

@Selfexpression You better believe it, buddy! Kids were more well rounded and SELF disciplined because of it and became the better for it.
