I Was Spanked With A Slipper When I Was At School

I wrote in another post as to how your first taste of corporal punishment used to earn you a certain status amongst your peers. Your first caning in particular elevated you to the caned club.

However there were quite a few girls who were always well behaved and were regarded as "goody goodies". When we were 13 or 14 several of us tried to annoy them to get them into trouble which often didn't work but I recall one girl who was aloof, clever and thought she was better than the rest of us.

Several of us decided that she needed taking down a peg or two and decided to see if we could get her the slipper. An opportunity arose when we had a particularly strict maths teacher who was quick to use her slipper. The girl left her bag unattended and we switched her maths exercise book for another similar book at the end of the lesson so that she could not do her homework which had to be handed in the next day. We knew that the teacher would slipper any girl who had not completed her homework.

We all waited with bated breath on the following day when the girl looked very uncomfortable and red in the face. She had to admit that she had not completed her homework as she had taken the wrong book home. There was a loud ooooh! sound from the rest of us as she was called to the front. We all watched with immense interest as she was told to bend over and I think she received 3 whacks. To give her credit she took the whacking well and somehow afterwards gradually mixed with us more.

WHEN I WAS AT SCHOOL THE SLIPPER NEVER GOT THE same status as the cane. I can recall that the slipper used was a leather one, just like i used as a deputy, and two hard whacks with the leather sole on the bare bottom use to sting more than two of the cane at the time of landing but the sing was only very short while with te cane your bottom was throbbing for ages

@chikki The slipper was usually seen as a bit of a joke, there was something of a race each week to see who could get the first slippering of the week. This was usually won sometime Monday morning. ;)

The cane had a higher status but I think that was simply because it was only used by head teachers. In my experience, the cane stung a lot more as I got it but wore off fairly quickly. It certainly throbbed for a while but I wouldn't say for ages.

Having had both many times at school, and feed back from my sons and from many i had caned and slippered at school (for my book) I must disagree with you.
I think tw things may be causing this differance. When i was slippered, and the first time a boy got it when i was deputy, underpants were allowed. the rest of the time it was on a bare bottom. Many testify that the slipper on the bare bottom stings nearly twice as much as when done on pants. Just that thin layer of cotton reduces the sting a great deal. When I talk about the slipper I mean a house slipper. This was a house slipper with the top cut off for flexibility and a thick but bendable leather sole about a size 11 (44) so no much of the bottom was spared on each whack. I wonder it you do mean this kind of slipper or the more common gym shoe

@chikki The "slipper" when I was at school referred to a plimsoll/gymshoe. Usually a well worn tatty one. They didn't have much mass hence not much momentum either so tended to sting without causing deep tissue damage.

The canes used were light and very whippy. Again not much momentum but, having a smaller area of contact, concentrated the sting, making it far more intense.

Having been slippered and caned through trousers (in 6th form), just knickers and bare, I wouldn't say there was any significant difference.

@Sharon Our "slippers" were the same as yours. Quite a few of our teachers carried them in their briefcases. They were used regularly for minor disobedience and apart from a few well behaved girls most of us felt it quite a few times each year. The sting normally wore off in a few minutes and no marks resulted.

The cane was only given by the headmistress in her study as was for more serious offences. There was a like a ritual to follow when being sent to the head - usually an ooooh! from your friends would be heard when a summons was announced- and an appointment would be made at the end of the school day.

Probably less than half the girls in my year group were caned and there was excitement around a girl who had been caned the following morning with silly questions like "did it hurt" and requests to see the marks. Canings were treated far more seriously.

I agree that there is little difference in the sting of being slippered and caned over knickers and trousers - probably a little less embarrassing over trousers in the 6th form as it avoided the need to fold your skirt back out of the way!

@Rebecca54 Most of my teachers carried a slipper with them too. I don't know of anyone who totally avoided the slipper in my school. Even the goody-goodies would have fallen foul of the gym mistress at some time. Most of us felt it several times a term.

The cane was rarer but apparently considerably more common than in your school. I'd say more than half felt it at least once and many of us several times with a significant number of regular recipients.

i think when i was a boy you use to expect the cane as every teacher could and did use the cane. It was a all boys private pep school and no modesty. If you failed to do homework or did something wrong you were called to the front of the class, blazer off, trousers and pants to at least your knees and bending over a chair with your bottom facing the class. The teacher would lift up yur shirt and the class would see you bare bottom being caned. I think most boys got it at least twice a term.
Where i was deputy the boys stared at under 8 and left at under 13. fROM 1980 to abolition in late 1999 during those six years at school day boys on average were caned about 4 times and boarders about 7.

@Sharon I am glad we didn't have your gym mistress!! Several girls as far as I remember never had the slipper throughout their school career. We kept a chart and ticked against their names when they first had the slipper or cane.

One girl who never had the slipper managed to get the cane for cheating in a test. It surprised us! We all gathered around the next day to ask for details and admire her stripes.
