I was spanked by my mom and dad from about age 4, to about age 13. I wasn't spanked again by anyone, until after college, when I (tentatively) resumed with one boyfriend. My current boyfriend and i also practice this.
My mom's attitude has pretty much become mine. It's wrong to spank a really young child, who probably doesn't understand what they did wrong, or have the self control to curb all their impulses. Age 4 . . . when a child is capable of having conversations about right and wrong . .. is probably the earliest i think it should happen. When a child has begun to learn to read and write might be better.
My first spanking was impromptu. I can no longer recall what it was about. I was marched into the kitchen, pulled over my mothers lap, pants pulled down, and smacked while i struggled and cried. Then sent to my room.
Afterwards we had a conversation. There was to be no more struggling or yelling if i earned a spanking in the future. I was to cooperate, and be polite.
Of course, I tested that rule a week later. Mom sent me to my room .. . no TV, and can't leave . . .until I behaved and presented myself for the spanking. That afternoon I agreed to her terms.
She told me she understood that this was a new process for me, but that she had had to follow the same rules when she was growing up. When told a spanking was deserved, I was to either pull my pants down/skirt up (as the case may be) or undress completely if instructed, and lay across her lap.
I was allowed to practice this as a dry run several times that afternoon, to get used to the idea, before my spanking was actually administered. Every hour or so she would tell me "pants off .. come lie across my lap". With repetition it became less scary. When I was spanked for real it still hurt like the dickens, but i was mentally ready for it.
