Someone’s enjoying harems today.

Maybe Harems are romanticised a little,perhaps many women were held as slaves,the man selecting the most attractive female captives for the harem.
I guess it was a better life than being sold into hard domestic slavery though.
Then again what happened to the women once they were past their best?
