If you click on someone to visit their profile, in the lowest line of links at the bottom of the profile box, you can select "Gifts"--it's this, on your profile:
This will take you to the gift page, with various sets of "gifts". You can select one, send it with a note (of limited length), and even send it in "private" mode if you are sending a personal message.
