Was Voltaire's story "Candide" a spoof on the life of JJ Rousseau?

Reading "Confessions" on audio

Voltaire's Candide is prime satire stuff, i am unaware if it has anything to do with Rousseau, maybe i think they were rivals. Nietzsche would be rooting for Voltaire ....:)
@SW-User I think they were rivals of a kind and I also think Im right.

and it adds so much fun and flavor!!

Confessions was the story of one of the literary pre-hippie types in Europe and Voltaire saw the silly infantile side of him,,,I think I understand now

and in so doing maybe he was doing a critique of the whole feelgood attitude that came through in this Romantic protohippie cultural movement known as Romanticism (still yet to come, but soon)

I took a course in college on revolution era French literature. Yes. "This is the Best of All Possible Worlds.". Explain. That was our final and only test.

But all children are not loved so well or perfectly. It helps when that happens though

I’ve no idea. But it sounds like something I’d enjoy

@Elevatorpitches can you confirm author and title please?
@Madmonk Voltaires book Candide might have been a spoof on that other French contemporary author JJ Rousseau.

Rousseau repeated some conversation from Voltaire that made me think that

Both are free online in print or in audio version, Scribd has a great audio English translation of Confessions
