A lesson from modern American history and what we must do better next time!

The United States Senate on February 13, 2021, voted to acquit Donald J.Trump of impeachment with 57 senators voting in favor of conviction and 43 voting against. The vote was 10 short of the 2/3’s majority needed to convict. Seven Republican senators joined the entire Democratic caucus in voting for conviction: Richard Burr of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania. Despite the verdict being for acquittal, the result was the most bipartisan presidential impeachment conviction vote to date. In Trump's first impeachment trial, Romney became the first senator to vote to convict a president from his own party.

Despite voting for acquittal, Mitch McConnell said that Trump "didn't get away with anything yet" because the criminal justice system could still deal with the situation. McConnell later added: “There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day [January 6, 2021.]”

So, when the BLUE WAVE CRESTS, guess what the next order of business will be!
