2026 Election security

It is dead certain Trump and the Republicans will try to rig and sabotage the 2026 Mid-term election. They will use voter suppression tactics, sabotage the post office and mail-in ballots, voter intimidation such as having threatening ICE goons at the ballot place.

At this point the U.S. needs international over-sight to protect the election from illegal interference by Trump and company. Maybe the United Nations could have observers here.

Call your Reps and Senators and demand they aggressively protect the 2026 election.

While I share your concern, I'd rather not give Trump the opportunity to piss on the UN any more than he already has.

I don't know what it is, but if there is a fix to this problem, it needs, IMO, to come from inside the US and not from outside.

I guess asking for UN assistance may not be such a bad idea to point out the problem, but I kind of hope there's another way.
@MistyCee Yeah. The problem with that is the UN is almost always by force. The UN has no military per se but usually observers are broad in to places the US has reduced to rubble piles.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yup, but Trump would veto any resolution to interfere, and while it wouldn't be necessary, Putin and other Security council members might as well just to stay on Trump's good side.

It may be tempting to think the publicity might help, but the UN is pretty toothless to start with, and foreigners even trying to stop him would probably bring out the MAGA voters and make things worse.

Then there's Trump's retaliation to consider as well. Overall, I think the worst thing is for the US to further isolate itself from the rest of humanity.
@MistyCee Trump would definitely veto it. Putin doesn't need to do anything. America is eating itself. But Russians are probably looking at Americans and see what I see Yeltsin 2.0.

Americans should ask Russians what to expect from the wild 90s.

The UN was always about keeping the status quo going but under more lofty PR since colonialism for it's own sake was unpopular by 45.
@MistyCee And for further historical context. Yeltsin was not just a corrupt and clueless drunk. He also rolled tanks into the capitol and shelled the Duma when he didn't get his way.

Clinton at the time called it "democratic."
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Ok, so this would be a good thing to point out the problems with permanent Security Council members and vetos?

I doubt it. I really dislike the idea of wrecking stuff without a feasible plan to replace it.
@MistyCee Oh I figured out that was a bad idea at around age 12 when Yugoslavia was turned into a hell hole.

And I agree. I am sad to say I don't see any good options for Americans.
