Haitian nonprofit in Springfield files criminal charges against Donald Trump, JD Vance

Cleveland News 5 WEWS reports:

“ The leader of the nonprofit Haitian Bridge Alliance filed charges against former president Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, for the chaos that ensued from their uncorroborated statements about immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating pets, according to the Cleveland law firm representing the agency.

The Chandra Law Firm says the nonprofit used a state statute allowing private citizens to "file an affidavit charging the offense committed."

The following charges were filed:

Disrupting public service — by causing widespread bomb and other threats that resulted in massive disruptions to the public services in Springfield, Ohio;

Making false alarms — by knowingly causing alarm in the Springfield community by continuing to repeat lies that state and local officials have said were false;

Committing telecommunications harassment — by spreading claims they know to be false during the presidential debate, campaign rallies, nationally televised interviews, and social media;

Committing aggravated menacing in violation — by knowingly making intimidating statements with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass the recipients, including Trump’s threat to deport immigrants who are here legally to Venezuela, a land they have never known;

Committing aggravated menacing — by knowingly causing others to falsely believe that members of Springfield's Haitian community would cause serious physical harm to the person or property of others in Springfield; and

Violating the prohibition against complicity — by conspiring with one another and spreading vicious lies that caused innocent parties to be parties to their various crimes.

The charges were filed in Clark County Municipal Court.

Through the filing, the nonprofit asks the court to affirm probable cause and to issue arrest warrants.

The court must have a hearing before rejecting the affidavit as part of the legal process.

The law firm said the charges "stem from the impact of Trump’s and Vance’s baseless fearmongering that that legal Haitian immigrants to the Ohio town are eating their neighbor’s pets."

“The Haitian community is suffering in fear because of Trump and Vance’s relentless, irresponsible, false alarms, and public services have been disrupted. Trump and Vance must be held accountable to the rule of law. Anyone else who wreaked havoc the way they did would have been arrested by now," lead counsel Subodh Chandra said. "There’s nothing special about Trump and Vance that entitles them to get away with what they’ve done and are doing. They think they're above the law. They're not."

Springfield has been inundated with hoax bomb threats since the presidential debate when Trump baselessly accused members of Springfield's Haitian community of abducting and eating cats and dogs.“

The real problem is that not only does the Maga crowd not care about Trump and Vance lies, but they also justify them so long as they help reach their selfish goal.

It's either "Trump is not lying" or "If Trump did lie, it was for a greater purpose."

All politicians speak out of both corners of their mouths in order to win votes. For that reason, you would be hard pressed to find a politician who didn't lie about something (maybe Jimmy Carter - and his honesty was his downfall). Usually, these are lies of omission, or twisting the truth, lies by taking things out of context, or lies of denial when they are accused of something.

With Trump, and his MAGA cult, it's different. They simply make shit up or repeat something of a questionable source. There is a complete denial of facts. The "sharpie" incident is a perfect example. Use a sharpie to edit a map to cover Trump's error rather than just admitting he misspoke on something that wasn't that important anyway.

Good. The initial remarks I can chalk up to ignorance and a failure to check facts before flapping their gums. But one it was aware that safety of the community is an issue, and that the Mayor and Governor were telling them to STFU, it's all on them. And they didn't care, because they are bigots, and I hope they are held accountable.

@trollslayer Excellent summary!
Liars Trump and Vance STILL haven't found evidence of a SINGLE Haitian immigrant eating any pets.

In case you were concerned, here are the facts on Miss Sassy.
A Vance spokesperson on Tuesday provided The Wall Street Journal with a police report in which a resident had claimed her pet might have been taken by Haitian neighbors. But when a reporter went to Anna Kilgore’s house Tuesday evening, she said her cat Miss Sassy, which went missing in late August, had actually returned a few days later—found safe in her own basement.

Kilgore, wearing a Trump shirt and hat, said she apologized to her Haitian neighbors with the help of her daughter and a mobile-phone translation app.

BTW, I found this image of the original (now deleted) post. Note the impeccable sourcing: neighbor's daughter's friend.

Absolutely as it should be. Their only concern is votes from the timid. They are unbothered if their lies disrupt a city, result in bomb threats or confrontations. They don’t care if people die.

That says all I need to know.

And Republican representative for the district, Mike Turner strangely silent about the matter.

@Colormegone
All the republicans I hear from are screaming because no one is prosecuting the democrats. “We’re no worse than them “ doesn’t sound like a get out of jail free card.
GOOD FOR THEM! LOCK EM UP!!!
How often is that statute employed and how many turn into arrest warrants?
