The Carter Care announced that former President Jimmy Carter, who at 98 is the longest-lived U.S. President, has entered home hospice care in Plains, Georgia. Instead of undergoing further treatment, Carter decided to spend his remaining days at home with his family and receive hospice care.

Carter was a democratic leader who presided over the country from January 1977 to January
1981.

Carter had one turbulent term in office before being soundly defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan in 1980. This crushing setback paved the way for Carter's decades-long promotion of democracy, public health, and human rights across the world through The Carter Center.

Since then, Carter has suffered numerous health problems, including melanoma that spread to his liver and brain. In August 2015, he underwent liver surgery to remove a small cancerous
mass.

Over the course of this tenth decade of life, the former president’s health deteriorated, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic constrained his public appearances, including at his Maranatha Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School lessons for decades.

The family members of the said 39th President request solitude at this time and are appreciative of the concern expressed by his many supporters.
