I Wish I Had An Honest President

Dear Americans,

Some non-Americans, like me, do care about your politics because America has a strong influence over worldwide affairs. In that vein I would like to request, respectfully, please don't inflict Trump on the world.

Thank you so much.

Lots of love, Fazer1k

Trade you for the royal family?
@SW-User Oh god please no. We don't need a royal family!!!!

@IAmJess I do believe the royal family are good for Britain as so many take an interest but they come at a huge cost to taxpayers.

Trump for King, anyone... 😨
SW-User
@IAmJess They would have to get jobs because us "lazy" *
Americans ain't gonna support them...

*That was satire...Americans are not really that lazy....we work more hours and have less vacation days then our European cousins...
however many Americans don't get satire and thus,all these disclaimers
*p.s. I am American
*p.p.s. One who has spent too many years watching British comedy not to
pick up some cheeky ways

@fazer1k He will have to get a job
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@SW-User Yes - preferably a different job!

@fazer1k Always need trash collectors. How do you think Prince Phillip will do?

*whispers in Anarchist* Destroy all states and hierarchies *slinks back to the shadows*
@fazer1k Good for Britain? Bad for Britain? Who cares? Why does the concept of "royalty" even exist in 2018??
@SW-User Lol, love the disclaimers.

*the preceding comment was the authentic opinion of the commenter only and does not reflect the opinion of any sane person*

@SW-User I think he's a little bit past that now. He's... 96 I think! Actually I quite like some of the things he says - non-PC but often amusing.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@basilfawlty89 Some hierarchies are particularly expensive to maintain! I wouldn't wish for anarchy though.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@IAmJess Good question. I can only think it's because it's part of UK heritage. Let's put it this way - I don't think the UK government would dare to put it to a vote!
@fazer1k If they did, do you think a majority of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland would reject the royal family?

What would you do then? Form a republic?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@fazer1k Anarchy isn't what people think it is though. It doesn't mean no laws and chaos. It means instead of kings and representative democracy, we instead have direct democracy.
@basilfawlty89 How is "anarchy" equal to "direct democracy"??? That's not even close to true.
SW-User
@IAmJess Humpty Dumpty dictionary says it is
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@IAmJess It is entirely true. See the history of the Anarchist movement. Read Proudhon, Bakunin, Kropotkin, Goldman and Gelderloos.

@IAmJess

anarchism
ˈanəkɪz(ə)m/Submit
noun
belief in the abolition of all government and the organization of society on a voluntary, cooperative basis without recourse to force or compulsion.
a political force or movement based on belief in anarchism.
"socialism and anarchism emerged to offer organized protest against the injustices of Spanish society"
SW-User
@basilfawlty89 abolishing organization is not chaos?
@basilfawlty89 None of that means direct democracy. Direct democracy IS a form of government. Anarchy would seek to abolish it just like any other form of government. 🙄

@IAmJess In truth I don't know what would happen. There was a live TV programme several years ago which tried to promote the idea of having a royal family and included a public phone voting system. At that time the vote was 'no' to having a royal family so the programme backfired on its creators. Public opinion has become more positive since then, though, in my view, and much of that has to do with Princes William and Harry.

If we did ever remove the monarchy I suspect the rest of our system would remain the same. It is government running the country now with little involvement from the Queen, as I understand it. Whether the elected leader would then be known as President rather than Prime Minister I'm not sure but I suspect not. Technically without a monarchy we would be a republic, as you say.
@fazer1k Well no, not really. There is a very big difference between a republic and a monachy... not really in practicalities, but in the legal foundation.

Right now, every law passed in the UK stems from an Act of Parliament which requires royal assent which stems from the authority vested in the monarch from God almighty. Right?
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@basilfawlty89 I don't really know enough about how that would work, to be honest, but I would take some convincing that it wouldn't result in lawlessness and chaos.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@IAmJess Without having studied specifically, I don't believe anarchy in any way equates to direct democracy either.
@fazer1k 👍
