Angles Landing Murder Case

Angels Landing Murder Case — 20 Years After the Fall
A former Las Vegas youth pastor, David Vander Meer, has been charged with murder and insurance fraud nearly two decades after his wife, Bernadette Vander Meer, died in a fall from the Angels Landing trail in Zion National Park in 2006 FOX 13 Utah+1.

Background of the 2006 Incident
On the morning of August 22, 2006, the couple hiked to the summit of Angels Landing, a 4.8-mile, steep, and narrow trail known for its high fatality rate. Bernadette, 28, was a worship leader and casino employee; David was a church youth pastor. According to his account, David was setting up a camera for sunrise photos when he turned away to move backpacks and heard Bernadette scream as she fell FOX 13 Utah+1. He claimed to have run down the trail to call 911. Her body was found hours later at the base of the trail.

At the time, investigators considered it an accident, but the case was closed with limited evidence.

Great hike. I have done it a few times. I have actually hiked every trail in Zion including backpacking the
east and west rim. And the narrows top to bottom 2 day hike through. Also a couple canyoneering routes

Two decades later, prosecutors are claiming that David Vander Meer pushed his wife from the cliff’s edge after law enforcement received a new tip from Vander Meer’s former boss. In addition to claiming that the fall wasn’t accidental, prosecutors allege that Vander Meer was involved in an underage sexual relationship with a woman from his church youth group, identified as “SH” in court documents.

A day before the Vander Meer’s trip to Zion National Park, SH allegedly met with David to end their relationship. SH told detectives that David Vander Meer told her that they could only “be together if Bernadette is not alive.” The story Vander Meer told investigators was also slightly different from the story he told his youth group, in which he said he was taking a photograph of Bernadette when he turned to take something out of his bag, at which point she fell.

Prosecutors allege that the incident was premeditated, pointing to the fact that Vander Meer had increased the couple’s life insurance from $150,000 to approximately $550,000 about a year prior to the incident. After his wife’s death was ruled accidental, Vander Meer filed an insurance claim and collected more than $567,000.

The allegations against Vander Meer remain pending in court.

Kids and adults have to be careful getting close to a youth pastor or one of those tv evangelist church pastors. Most are weird and into porn AND murder of their wife
