why do american prisoners wear orange clothes?

surely its expensive, to make them in uk prisonders wear grey sweats, very cheap to make,

If they escape,orange-coloured clothing will always be noticeable against pretty much all backgrounds when they are on the run.

@MsSwan is right. The majority of prisons in America are located in rural areas. If a prisoner escapes, it would be difficult to hide in high grass, woods or forests.

@bijouxbroussard funnily in uk 179 prisoners were released by mistakein one year, the govt helped them get away haha,
