Smartphone manufacturers do pay tariffs on imports, but Apple CEO Tim Cook has managed to steer his company through the worst of tariff threats during both Trump administrations. In April, the Trump administration exempted smartphones and other electronics from its reciprocal tariffs.
In August, thanks to its pledge to increase its U.S. investments to $600 billion over four years, the company avoided a 100% tariff on semiconductors. Last week, a presidential proclamation enacted 25% tariffs on some AI-related semiconductors but excluded consumer devices. Through it all, Apple’s iPhones continue to be assembled overseas—albeit with some U.S.-made components.

I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S. Thank your for your attention to this matter!
