I've always been critical towards fellow pro-choicers who pretend like all pro-lifers are misogynistic men, since it's objectively untrue.

But who knows, maybe pretending actually is politically expedient here. I mean, conservatives have spent years pretending that all feminists are misandrist, all civil rights advocates are racist against white people, & all vegans are misanthropes. Sometimes inflating bad elements of your opposition is actually just really effective.
Nearly all of the politicians who are currently passing the new abortion restrictions are men. The conservative Supreme Court majority that is about to overturn Roe is four men and one woman. So if they’re not a bunch of misogynistic men doing this, how could you tell? Because women don’t have a significant input into these decisions.

@LeopoldBloom Obviously, a majority of the pro-life politicians are gonna be men, because the majority of politicians are men. There's also the significant confounding variable that Republicans skew more towards voting men in, since they care a lot less about gender diversity, and pro-lifers are kinda stuck with the Republican Party whether they like it or not.

If you look at the actual voting public though, the gender gap on abortion is actually pretty slim -- in some specific cases, even non-existent.

Aside from all that, I have pro-lifers in my family who are vehemently against sexism in general & really are just concerned about the rights of fetuses. The problem is that they have moral values that are axiomatically different to ours. For us, life is -- on a moral level -- about sentience, while for them, life is morally about DNA and the soul. Honestly, it's not entirely disconnected from the difference between vegans and non-vegans, though it's obviously not a 1:1 comparison for a variety of reasons. It sucks that this has to be a morally complex issue, but unfortunately moral complexity is just a part of political life and we have to learn to live with that in some form.

Or just keep accusing the other side of being sexist and hope it works. It very well may lmao, I'm not even pretending to have the moral high ground here. Do whatever you want.

Yes, it is effective, and “we go high” is bullshit. There’s no reason to. The right will go lower than you could’ve ever imagined; now they’re saying all public school teachers are pedophiles and this shit works. Doing the same may be the only effective counter.

I hear about women who are pro-lifers just as men. I just don't agree with their views and see them both as hypocritical

@Chickie I mean I think burglary should be illegal, but I don't personally help people whose houses are at risk of getting burgled or whatever. Failing to help is fundamentally different from acting to hurt, and that's even moreso the case in conservative thought.

@BlueVeins burglary isn't the same thing as helping unfortunate kids when people want to selfishly breed.

Typical pro-life trash argument I'm leaving this convo
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Chickie Didn't say it was. Steel-manning opposition isn't being pro-life lmao
