HAWKER HURRICANE (1935). Rolls-Royce Merlin-powered contemporary of the Supermarine Spitfire. Slower, less pretty but agile and stable. Easier to land than a Spitfire!
The design involved more traditional materials than some of the period, involving wood, metal and fabric, but manufacturing tolerances were tight in order to give the structure its strength. However, the aircraft was comparatively simple to build with relatively unskilled labour. Early examples featured fabric-covered wings, but this was changed to metal early on in the production run. Not many flying today, but photographed these at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in 2015.
If you can get an old Win98 desktop pc, find an old Gane called JanesUSAF. It has some old planes you can learn to fly and take into air to air and air to ground combat. Has mostly newer jet fighters and bombers but still a blast. I spent months getting a newer duel core to set up on Win98. Kids have a ball on it. So do i.
