Nowhere is safe from thermonuclear war due to the worldwide nuclear fallout. Like Subsumedpat declared, the nuclear winter for just one year alone, would wipe out all crops worldwide. That's the least of our worries. There are several super volcanoes that are threatening to erupt. Look at what Krakatoa did to the European and American farmers back int he 1800's with that fallout from just one year. A lot of people starved from lack of food.
