In June 1941, Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union with the intent to conquer and enslave its people. In response, over 2000 Russian women enlisted as snipers in the Soviet army. The female sharpshooters who entered the brutal and sordid front lines of WWII became a terror to German soldiers.
The most notorious of them all, was Lyudmila Pavlichenko – also known as Lady Death. She reportedly killed over 300 Nazis in less than a year of combat, and later went on to train younger snipers. “We mowed down Hitlerites like ripe grain,” she once said, undeniably also referring to her comrades who lodged extensive kill counts of their own.

They were true heroines in the fight against fascism.

@originnone I don't think either side in WWII were heroes. But in addition to that, Stalinism pretty much was Fascism. Remember, the Soviet Union sided with Nazi Germany. The only reason they had a falling out is because Stalin wanted all of Eastern Europe. The Soviet Union wasn't fighting for freedom, they were fighting for territory.
@BohemianBabe That's a fuckin awful take. The Soviets fought to protect their people and country foremost. Sure Stalin wanted more soviet influence which in general is not a bad thing hadn't he been a terrible leader.
The Hitler Stalin pact wasn't really a siding with Hitler it's a really bad take you got there.
@Gloomy I'm sure there were some regular people, many of them apolitical, who just wanted to defend their land. But they weren't fighting against Fascism. They were fighting again a fascist country on the behalf of another fascist country. Also, many people in the Red Army were forced to fight or go to the gulags.
Stalin didn't just want more influence. He wanted to invade all of Eastern Europe. The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact was about the Nazis and the Bolsheviks jointly invading and dividing up Eastern Europe. The only reason it fell apart is because Stalin got greedy. We accept that Italy and Japan sided with the Nazis. The only reason Tankies defend the Soviet Union on this issue is because they used leftist imagery.
@Emosaur I agree that not every form of Authoritarianism is Fascism. Tankies tend to be more progressive when it comes to social issues, so that makes them the lesser evil to Fascists. However, Stalinism wasn't progressive. Under Stalin, the Bolsheviks put LGBT people in the gulags. And because Stalin used leftist imagery, Tankies will either downplay this or just deny it happened, much like Neo-Nazis deny the Holocaust.
While the Left does do way too much infighting and purity spiraling, we do have to draw the line somewhere. If policy matters more than vibes, we should view the Soviet Union as just another anti-freedom and anti-worker failed state. And bee tee dubs, I welcome Marxists, even though I'm not a Marxist. I think we can work with them. But Stalinists? Nein.
