Today is the 75th anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima

[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofSF463vpCQ]

Threescore and fifteen years ago,

On Iwo Jima's scoriac stones

Many a young man bled and died

For country, God or emperor.

Now looking at this desolate isle

Today, but little more remains

Than mostly unkempt monuments

And dreadful artifacts of war,

Rusting where they fell, so long ago.

@Thinkerbell wow. It is so moving. The last two lines read like something from some famous classical poem (that doesn't happen to exist). And I like that you included both sides (including those who fought and died for their emperor). Will you share more poetry?

I don't write much serious poetry.
I find it much easier to write limericks, or parodies of Poe's The Raven.

@Thinkerbell Brilliant, but idk if that gets a laugh or cry emoji. Is the story from real life?

No, it's not from real life. It's about an SW user (from Winnipeg, btw) who is ardently pro-communist and currently pro-Russian in the Ukraine war. "Pics" is short for his user name.
@Thinkerbell oh dear. I better watch my step around here so you and Poe don't write about me!

Too late. 🤭
