Can a US president decide alone on his/her own, whether he/ she can press the red button (the nuclear/atomic bomb) ?

We covered this during the Trump years.
@MistyCee And Trump never launched a nuclear weapon as warned and predicted by frantic Democrats.
@LoneVoice Who would serve him if he ended the human race?

Even Trump can think that far ahead and realize pushing the button would be bad for him.

@LoneVoice

Thanks for clarifying that we haven't had a nuclear war.

Who were these frantic democrats that you speak of?

I remember people saying he could, but I don't remember many saying he would.

Maybe they were on Fox?
@MistyCee Democrat talking points (paraphrasing): Don't vote Trump/Republican unless you want a nuclear war, yet only Democrats have ever used a nuclear weapon in world history. Hypocrites. 🤣
@LoneVoice It did seem a little silly to focus too much on Trump possibly causing a nuclear war when he was so buddy buddy with Putin and Kim, but some of the folks in NATO might have bruised his ego.
@MistyCee But they focused on it anyway.
@LoneVoice They focused on a lot of things about Trump, and we heard how he couldn't impulsively start a nuclear war by himself and that there were efforts to try and keep adults in the room with him, as well as to simplify and otherwise make complex Presidential stuff palatable in line with his deficiencies and temperament. Most of that came from Republicans, by the way, and not Democrats.

He truly was, and is, not just a Democratic or Republican concern, but a danger and potential threat to all human beings.
@LoneVoice But he did play Nuclear Chicken with Kim Jong un.
