The United States has the best chance of surviving a nuclear attack. Russia has unreliable missiles to deliver with from a long and extensive sanction. By that time all of NATO would retaliate. The U.S. also has a quiet sentry of submarines for any froggy nation. Jump!

Speed doesn’t matter if the guidance and targeting systems are dated and the microelectronics are not available to update the missiles. putin is getting the beat down from Ukraine that he deserves and if he really was that advanced in weaponry then he wouldn’t be adding up casualties at the rate of 1000 to 2000 a day!

The design of a missile and its warhead is not important if it can work as intended, and a senior military oifficer who defected to the "West" several months ago has warned us publicly that Russia has been keeping its missiles and launch systems maintained.
After the fall of the USSR, Russia closed many of its Cold War installations and scrapped large numbers of submarines, aircraft, etc., but did not end its nuclear warfare ability completely.
The West's only hope is that its defences have improved enough to be able to shoot a significant number of them down.
What might be less likely if war broke out between Russia and NATO is a large-scale land invasion of Western European countries, as the Soviet bloc had planned and for which those countries were prepared. For one thing, the nations whose armies had been dragooned into the Soviet force, would now be aiming their guns Eastwards, not West.
For another, Russia and its pals like China and North Korea have extra, new ways to attack countries without risking Servicemen's lives... and are using them if only in grim "test" versions. Why risk mutual near-annhialation and many decades of suffering by nuclear war if you can cripple your enemies quietly enough totally to impose your will on theirs?
Why did that officer defect? He was ordered to justify to his subordinates, regarding Ukranian civilians as legitimate military targets, which is against international law. He refused and was punished by being sent to a combat unit - I think he said he was also demoted.
