October 16: World Bread Day People all over the world eat bread, though not necessarily the types we are accustomed to here. On October 16, we celebrate World Bread Day to highlight the importance of bread as a food source.
World Bread Day falls on the same date that the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was established. The FAO was founded on October 16, 1945, with the goal of combating hunger, under the motto "Fiat panis"—meaning "Let there be bread." On this same day, we also observe the UN’s World Food Day, which aims to raise awareness about the need to ensure sufficient and nutritious food for everyone.
