1051 Conference at Gloucester between English King Edward the Confessor and his adversary, the Earl of Godwine; Godwine later goes into exile temporarily.
1497 Flemish pretender Perkin Warbeck is acclaimed as English King Richard IV on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall.
On 7th September 1402, Henry IV was nearly killed whilst campaigning against Owain Glyndwr.
Following Owain Glyndwr's emphatic victory at The Battle of Bryn Glas on 22nd June 1402, Henry IV was attempting to regain control in Wales. Henry crossed into central Wales, from Shrewsbury and Hereford Castle and drove through Powys towards the Cistercian abbey of Strata Florida, which he had previously used as a base during the early years of the uprising.
After terrible weather and constant harassment by Owain's forces, Henry reached Strata Florida and partially destroyed the abbey, executing monks suspected of pro-Owain loyalties. However, he had failed to engage Owain's forces in any large numbers and Owain's forces engaged in hit-and-run tactics on his supply chain. By 7th September, torrential rain was lashing Henry's army, he was reduced to sleeping in his armour and was almost killed by a large tent support when his tent blew away. By September 22nd, it was evident that the campaign had been a military failure for the King and his army, starving and demoralised, was forced to withdraw to Hereford Castle.
On September 7, 1630, the city of Boston was officially founded by a group of Puritan colonists from England. Led by John Winthrop, these settlers established the Massachusetts Bay Colony’s capital, choosing the Shawmut Peninsula for its strategic location and natural harbour.
1695 English pirate Henry Every and his crew aboard the Fancy capture the armed Mughal trading ship Ganj-i-Sawai in the Arabian Sea in one of the most profitable raids in history, with loot valued between £325,000 and £600,000. The East India Company later compensates for the loss after Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb closes five ports to English trade.

The Beatles recorded an appearance on the BBC radio program ‘Saturday Club’, at the Playhouse Theatre in London. They performed ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, ‘Memphis’, ‘Happy Birthday Saturday Club’ (arrangement credited to John Lennon), ‘I'll Get You’, ‘She Loves You’, and ‘Lucille’.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham made their live debut as The New Yardbirds at Teen Club in Gladsaxe (a suburb in the outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark). Around 1,200 youngsters attended the show at Egegard School. Teen Club President Lars Abel introducing 'The New Yardbirds' on stage introduced Robert Plant as Robert Plat. A local review stated; 'Their performance and their music were absolutely flawless, and the music continued to ring nicely in the ears for some time after the curtains were drawn after their show. We can therefore conclude that the new Yardbirds are at least as good as the old ones were'.
