1806 Orkney woman Isobel Gunn sets sail for Prince Rupert's Land disguised as a man to work for the Hudson Bay Company - her true identity only revealed when she gives birth December 1807.
1850 British ex-Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel falls off his horse; dies three days later.
1914 Jina Guseva attempts to assassinate Grigori Rasputin at his home town in Siberia.
A total eclipse of the sun took place over many parts of Wales, just after dawn on 29th June 1927. It first hit Pen Llyn, before moving over Pwllheli, Snowdon and Conwy. Thousands of people came to Caernarfon to view the eclipse with many of them climbing local mountains such as Cader Idris and Snowdon to get an uninterrupted view.
1964 NBC approves Gene Roddenberry's script for the pilot episode of "Star Trek" titled "The Cage"
1973: Deep Purple's "Mark II," line-up comes to an end after their show in Osaka, Japan, when lead singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover abruptly quit over tensions with lead guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.
