1147 Crusaders Capture Lisbon During the Second Crusade.
The second major crusade launched from Europe as Catholic ('Latin') Holy War against Islam.
Lisbon was captured during the Second Crusade, but it wasn't a religious triumph. The city fell because it was a merchant stopover turned opportunistic raid.
1509 Henry VIII wed Catherine of Aragon, the first of his six wives. Pope Clement VII's later refusal to annul the marriage triggered the break between Henry and the Roman Catholic Church and led to the English Reformation.

The Hovercraft invented by Christopher Cockerell is officially launched in Southampton.
2002 The United States Congress officially acknowledged Antonio Meucci as the telephone’s first inventor. This recognition corrected decades of historical oversight regarding the Italian inventor’s contributions.
Meucci’s poverty had prevented him from renewing his patent caveat, allowing Alexander Graham Bell to claim credit. The congressional resolution finally gave Meucci his rightful place in telecommunications history.
