1431 Joan of Arc is accused of relapsing into heresy by donning male clothing again, providing justification for her execution



1588 King Phillip II dispatches the Spanish Armada under the Duke of Medina-Sidonia from Lisbon, Portugal, to invade England



1830 US President Andrew Jackson signs the Indian Removal Act, a key law leading to the forced removal of the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes out of Georgia and surrounding states, setting the stage for the Cherokee Trail of Tears




1936: Mathematician Alan Turing submits his paper On Computable Numbers for publication in which he outlines the hypothetical device later known as the Turing machine – the basis for all modern computers.





1945World War II: the English broadcaster of Nazi propaganda, William Joyce (Lord Haw-Haw) was captured near Hamburg. He was later tried for treason, found guilty, and hanged.



1951BBC radio broadcast the first edition of The Goon Show, starring Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe.



28th May 1971 saw the opening of the Llanberis Lake Heritage Railway. It runs along the trackbed of the defunct Padarn Railway, which was originally built in 1842 to carry slate from the Dinorwic Quarry to Y Felinheli (Port Dinorwic) on Menai Strait.
