In the past few decades I have heard many people say they didn't have anything to do with slavery, we don't owe you anything, speaking of restitution / that was hundreds of years ago ( actually not true) to get over it / why you people keep bringing this up / you don't hear other people complaining, my guess is speaking of the native American Indians, and they do cry out too just not as frequently or loudly / you are free, now you got your rights, somewhat true but not absolutely .
The native American Indians are also crying for their rights.
When you have a people that has been subjected to dehumanizing ways of living for centuries, even up until the 1970s that is not something that is easily brushed off your shoulders. And that is not something that actually ceased to occur hundreds of years ago.
1965 is when Blacks gained more civil rights, the right to vote - banning literacy test- banning poll tax - and here in 2026 governments of some states are still coming up with ways to eliminate Black votes, Brown votes _______ fair housing Act of 1968 - they even in the 21st century there are neighborhoods where Blacks / Browns are unwanted but have no legal recourse ____________ School desegregation though established in 1954 there was resistance, even despite 1965 civil Rights Act.
2026 still resistant. A very large percentage of schools are still segregated, is it because neighborhoods are mainly segregated separated by those who have and those who have not ______________ Equal employment Act of 1974 ( which Trump is determined to get rid of) aimed at allowing qualified Blacks to be hired on jobs other than as Trump said "Black jobs" which would be considered shoe shine boy, maid, janitor, cotton picker etc etc etc.
And we are still facing those things, though not as it was in the 20th century but still alive.
No it was not that long ago - the repercussions are still felt - and so much of this country still hold racism in their hearts. No not that long ago.
