@bijouxbroussard Not all slave owners beat their slaves, but plenty that did and does it really matter?
They sold family apart from one another and no matter how "good" you are to a slave you are still enslaving them.
He did hire a slave catcher to retrieve his "property" so that shows you how monstrous the systems really was and how we cannot today understand how anybody can justify owning someone else.
Slavery still goes on through trafficking, but its not protected by law nor can it be out in the open and seen as a normal commercial trade with protected property rights as it was then.
